B2B Intent Data Providers Compared: How to Choose the Right One

Intent data providers all promise to show you who’s ready to buy, but they get their data in very different ways. Here’s how the main types differ, what five well-known providers say about themselves, and the questions to ask before you sign up.

Basics

What an intent data provider does

An intent data provider collects signals that suggest a company is researching a topic or product, then tells you which accounts are showing those signals. If you’re new to the idea, start with what is intent data.

Providers differ in three big ways: where the signals come from, how detailed they are (company-level or person-level) and what you get (raw data, a full platform, or something in between).

Types

The main types of intent data provider

Data companies

gather research signals across many websites and deliver them into the tools you already use.

Full platforms

combine intent data with account identification, ads, analytics and workflows in one place.

Review-site intent

shows research activity on software review and comparison sites.

Contact databases with intent

add intent signals on top of company and contact records.

Which type fits depends on what your team already has and who will act on the data.

Everything below is taken from each provider’s own website (all checked 26 October 2026). It describes what they offer, not how well it works for any business.

Checklist

Questions to ask any intent data provider

01

Where exactly does your data come from?

Your own network, partners, review sites or a mix?

02

Is it company-level or person-level?

If company-level, how will you find the right contact?

03

How fresh is it?

How often are signals updated?

04

Does it cover our market?

Ask about the industries, company sizes and countries you sell into.

05

How does it fit our tools?

Check it works with your CRM and outreach tools.

06

How is privacy handled?

Ask how data is collected and which privacy rules the provider follows.

07

Can we test it?

Compare a sample of “in-market” accounts against your own pipeline before committing.

08

Who will act on it?

Intent data only pays off if someone follows up quickly and well.

Accuracy

How to judge accuracy for yourself

Every provider measures intent differently, so “accuracy” claims are hard to compare. A simple test works better:

  • Take the accounts a provider flags as in market over a few weeks.
  • Check how many fit your Ideal Prospect Profile.
  • Track how many reply, take a meeting or enter your pipeline compared with accounts that weren’t flagged.

If flagged accounts don’t behave differently from the rest, the data isn’t helping you.

DIY vs done for you

When a done-for-you service makes more sense

Buying a platform is only half the job. Someone still has to choose the right accounts, find the right contacts, write the outreach and follow up. If you don’t have a team ready to do that every day, a done-for-you service can turn signals into meetings without you running the platform.

Our intent data service does exactly that: we find accounts showing buying signals that fit your Ideal Prospect Profile, then reach out and book meetings for you. We use two sources: topic-level intent (companies and decision-makers researching topics tied to your offer, refreshed daily and limited to the last 14 days) and company buying signals (hiring for sales or marketing roles, funding, press releases, new sales or marketing leaders, and RFQs and RFPs).

FAQ

Intent data providers FAQ

Still unsure? Talk to us.

What are B2B intent data providers?

They are companies that collect signals showing which businesses are researching a topic or product, then share which accounts look in market so sales and marketing teams can act.

What’s the difference between an intent data company and a platform?

A data company mainly supplies the signals and delivers them into tools you already use. A platform combines intent data with features like account identification, ads, analytics and workflows.

How do I test an intent data provider?

Compare the accounts it flags as in market with your own results over a few weeks. If flagged accounts don’t reply or enter your pipeline more often than others, the data isn’t helping.

Do I need an intent data platform to use intent data?

No. A done-for-you service can use intent signals for you and turn them into outreach and meetings, so you don’t have to run a platform yourself.

Which intent data provider does RocketFuel use?

We don’t name the data providers we use.
