Google Ads vs Facebook Ads for B2B: Which Books More Calls?

Google Ads reaches people who are already searching for what you sell. Facebook and Instagram ads reach the right people before they start searching. For B2B, the better choice depends on whether buyers already know they need you. Here’s how to decide, and when to run both.

Short answer

The short answer

Start with Google Ads

if people already search for your service, for example “outsourced IT support” or “B2B appointment setting”. You reach them at the moment they’re looking.

Start with Facebook and Instagram ads

if buyers don’t know to search for you yet, or if search is limited in your niche. You can reach the right people and build demand.

Run both

once one is working. Search captures demand; social creates it and keeps you in front of people who’ve visited your site.

Google

How Google Ads targeting works

On Google Search, you choose keywords: words or phrases describing your product or service that help decide when your ad can appear. Google says ads can be eligible to show based on how closely your keywords match what someone searches, and match types let you control which searches your ads appear for (Google Ads Help, checked 26 October 2026).

Google also offers Customer Match, which lets you use your own customer information to reach and re-engage those customers across Search, the Shopping tab, Gmail, YouTube and Display (Google Ads Help, checked 26 October 2026).

For B2B, this means you reach buyers when they search for exactly what you offer, and you can tailor bids or messages for accounts you already know.

Meta

How Facebook and Instagram targeting works

Meta’s custom audiences let you build audiences from your own data, such as website visitors tracked through the Meta Pixel, customer lists, and people who’ve engaged with your content or lead forms (Meta Business Help Center, checked 26 October 2026).

From a custom audience, you can create a lookalike audience: new people who share similar characteristics to your existing customers. Meta says an audience built from your best customers, rather than all of them, may give better results depending on your goals (Meta Business Help Center, checked 26 October 2026).

For B2B, a list of your best clients can become the starting point for reaching similar decision makers. This is how we run Google, Facebook and Instagram ads aimed at B2B buyers, with LinkedIn-level targeting for less.

Cost per lead

Thinking about cost per lead

There’s no fixed rule for which platform gives a lower cost per lead. It depends on your market, offer, competition and how good your funnel is. A few principles help:

Search leads arrive with intent

Someone who searched for your service may be closer to buying, so compare platforms on what happens after the click.

Social leads usually need more nurturing

Someone who downloaded a guide may not be ready for a sales call yet.

Judge platforms by booked calls and pipeline, not just leads

A cheaper lead that never books a call isn’t cheaper.

Track the whole journey

Connect ads to your CRM so you can see which leads become meetings.

Funnels

Funnel design is what makes either work

Search traffic is ready for a call sooner. Social traffic needs a useful first step and follow-up before it’s ready to talk.

For Google Ads

send each group of keywords to a landing page that matches the search, with one clear next step, usually booking a call.

For Facebook and Instagram

offer something useful first, such as a guide, checklist or short video, then follow up by email and with retargeting ads until the prospect is ready to talk.

Many B2B campaigns fail because they send cold social traffic straight to a “book a call” page, or send search traffic to a generic homepage.

Both

When to run both

Running both often works well once one channel is proven:

  • Use Google Ads to capture people searching for your service
  • Use Facebook and Instagram retargeting to stay in front of people who visited but didn’t book
  • Use lookalike audiences to reach new decision makers who resemble your best clients

FAQ

Google Ads vs Facebook Ads FAQ

Still unsure? Talk to us.

Are Google Ads or Facebook Ads better for B2B?

It depends on whether buyers already search for what you sell. Google Ads captures people who are searching; Facebook and Instagram ads reach the right people before they search. Many B2B teams use both.

Which has a lower cost per lead, Google Ads or Facebook Ads?

There’s no fixed answer. It depends on your market, offer and funnel. Judge each platform by booked calls and pipeline, not just the number of leads.

Can you target business decision makers on Facebook?

You can build audiences from your own data, such as customer lists and website visitors, and create lookalike audiences of people similar to your best customers.

Should I run Google Ads and Facebook Ads at the same time?

Often, yes, once one is working. Google captures existing demand, while Facebook and Instagram can create demand and retarget people who visited your site.
